Swiss Pro Map is the map app for Switzerland and the Alpine region: offline maps and useful functions for outdoor activities such as mountain sports, hiking, cycling and aviation.

Maps such as the Swiss National Map, as well as objects on the map, such as hiking trails, public transport stops incl. timetable, SAC huts, parking spaces, location descriptions and much more, once loaded, remain usable offline on the device.
The app supports important functions for outdoor activities such as altitude display, distance and area measurement, search for locations and coordinates, route recording, import and export, offline route planning, etc.

Swiss Pro Map is free for two weeks from installation. After that, a subscription is required for unlimited use:

* The subscription enables unlimited use of the app and finances its maintenance and further development.
* It is valid for one year from the date of purchase.
* Price of the yearly subscription: See In-App-Purchases
* You will be charged with the payment method specified for your Apple ID

Pros and cons of Swiss Pro Map app for iPhone and iPad

Swiss Pro Map app good for

3.01 crashes while downloading tiles. At approx. 8,000 tiles the app crashes and has to be restarted. 3.0 had no problems downloading all tiles at once. Please fix the download bug in 3.01. Thank you very much. (Using iPhone 4, iOS 4.1.)
These are the best topo maps I have ever had the pleasure of using. The detail and clarity are great. The app makes it easy (not cheap, but you pay for convenience, and besides, this is switzerland) to access these maps. The interface has a few oddities, and more color might not be amiss, but I think these are great maps. The biggest downside is that they arent available elsewhere!
This is a very good app, but it would be a really bad idea to buy it without first going to the Swisstopo website to see what you were getting. As some reviewers noted, for the base price you get only the basic app and a single demonstration map, and the map "tiles" are indeed expensive. However, you end up with beautiful high-resolution maps of the section of Switzerland that you want, the application has many of the usual GPS features (current location, track), and the panoramic view and "augmented reality" have great possibilities, though I havent tried them yet. If you want electronic maps of Switzerland that reside inside your device instead of "out there" on the Internet, I think this is the only way to go.
For $34, I was able to unlock all 1/25k topographic maps covering a large area for hiking near Interlaken, including the Eiger, Jungfrau, and other areas nearby, along with hiking trails and Swiss Mobility information about public transit, lodging, and points of interest. All of the information is available for offline use, including train, tram, and bus schedules, and can take advantage of my iPads GPS capabilities. An equivalent amount of paper information would cost considerably more, be much less convenient, and offer much less functionality. The product would be vastly improved by the addition of some basic documentation, but I was able to figure it out in about 20 minutes anyway.

Some bad moments

4$ for the app and then another 80$ to get a complete map? Get real.
This is one the worst application I ever bought. It is extremely slow, and the user interface is atrocious. Gestures do not work as expected, scrolling and zooming almost always result in unwanted moves. The routing feature is a joke. Oh, but for the hype factor it includes "augmented reality". And of course the maps and data are very expensive. A shame to put such expensive information in such a terrible app.
nicely done, but the economic model is bad. the app is very limited without additional very expensive in-app purchases (close to $700 for covering all of switzerland), so it definitely should be free. if you play a little after installing it, you will exhaust your limit and then the app is completely useless without spending a lot more monely. a well-done app, but the economic model is wrong. the app itself should be free instead of having to pay for the trial phase.
Not impressed by the fee structure. I am almost 30$ in and now I have to figure what a tile credit is, and buy more to use the maps I thought I bought. I went on one 8 mile walk and used 420 tiles. I cant see how I used my tile credit and now I suspect I was debited multiple times for the same tile. That seems wrong considering how much everything is. I doubt I will use or recommend this app to anyone.
Does not work unless you purchase for lots of money the map tiles
The map looks great at first glance and seems reasonably priced when you first buy it. If however you want any more detail than the default main highways and cities you will pay around a thousand dollars for the complete set of map "tiles". This is a deceptive way to market an app in the App Store and reflects very badly on Apple. This app should be PULLED from the App Store or advertised honestly so people know what they are getting into. The biggest ripoff Ive ever seen in the App Store. The developer should be ashamed. How do I get a refund??? YOUVE BEEN WARNED!
